Here is how it works.

STEP 1: PROJECT PROGRAMMING, INVENTORY AND ANALYSIS

In this phase we lay out the practical groundwork for the entire project and all corresponding design work.

STEP 2: CONCEPTUAL DESIGN/ PRELIMINARY BUDGETING

During this phase of the process, we explore preliminary design ideas and the best ways to fit the project program elements on the site.

STEP 3: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

This phase is devoted to refinement of original ideas, based on our collaborative conversation during the conceptual presentation.

STEP 4: CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTING

Construction documenting consists of detailed plans for layout, grading, materials, finishes, appearances, and planting as well as construction details and specifications.

STEP 5: CONSTRUCTION, CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This phase of construction is the most exciting, it’s when dreams turn into reality. Efficient project management provides a smooth construction process.

STEP 6: FINAL WALKTHROUGH AND HANDOFF

At the conclusion of the design build process lies the final walkthrough and handoff! This is where we walk you through any usage, maintenance and care instructions for mechanicals we have installed. We also answer any parting questions you may have. Of course, you are part of the Robinia family now, and that means we are always available to answer questions in the future pertaining to your remodel project.

Quality Home Remodeling in Alexandria NH Needs to be Driven by Professional Design

Design build is everywhere today, it’s on trend, and for good reason. Simply put, it’s less expensive as part of a project with in-house staff, and it may lead to better outcomes. Key point here, may. Alexandria New Hampshire homeowners must be very careful when choosing a design build construction company for their Alexandria NH home remodeling project today because not every design build home remodeling company serving Alexandria NH is in fact a design build company, most are just build companies that uploaded a drag and drop design application for their iPad or desktop and proceeded to offer design services. This clearly isn’t good enough. For your project to deliver on the expectations you have, and they should be high, you need to make sure that a professional designer, preferably one with an architectural background has been assigned to your project. If not, you could be faced with project overruns, multiple unexpected change orders due to challenges that could have been foreseen up front, and issues with building methodologies that are driven by onsite factors.

Further, and more importantly, design is everything. Sure, you need to deliver quality building services, but without great design your remodel will fall short of expectations in terms of appeal and function, this is simply a fact. Builders have started to use low cost, in house, design services to lower the total cost of construction so they can compete in today’s competitive environment, but does that add value? In most cases that’s an emphatic no. The reality is you need professional design services from someone with an architectural background for a variety of reasons, some of which we have noted here.

Considerations When Undertaking Home Remodeling in Alexandria New Hampshire

  1. Design isn’t just dragging and dropping cabinets, walls, and structural connections on a grid, there is much more to consider.
  2. The understanding of spatial requirements, local architecture, current building styling and structure, and a properties natural surroundings are all very important in making your remodeling project “work”. The remodel has to fit the look and feel as if it was made to be there. Far too many design build firms today specialize in placement and measured fit, using pre-templated structures and styles to include standard cabinetry and layouts without any consideration for the true “fit” of a project.
  3. Designers with architectural backgrounds understand form, fit and function. While many design build firms focus on flow measurements and distances between things, professional designers with architectural backgrounds look to the why of flow and how of flow to determine spatial construction.
  4. A critical component during your home remodeling in Alexandria NH is the blending of nature with structure. Whether you are building a porch, pool house, guest house or undertaking an interior remodeling project, one thing is for sure, understanding how the natural elements that surround your structure interact with the structure itself in a harmonious way is critical. Even the positioning of windows, doors, hallways, etc. can be impacted negatively or positively by this interaction. Choosing the right design build firm for your Alexandria NH home remodeling is critical in blending nature and human built structure so you can truly feel in harmony.
  5. Less is sometimes more, and sometimes not. When designing structures people in general tend to build too big, or sometimes not big enough, how do you know what the perfect scale is? Often, it’s not until after the project is complete and you can see its true scale, do you realize you have made a miscalculation. Most design build construction companies lack the knowledge and experience when it comes scale, and why would they, they are used to building things, not designing things. They often lack the proper training that design build firms with both educational and practical experience with regards to architectural design possess, to ensure designed scale is appropriate for the project.
  6. Design, design, design. Of course, a critical component is design, but beyond design, it’s your design that matters. Typical design build contractors providing home remodeling in Alexandria New Hampshire will offer you catalogs of “things” to choose from and work with what you select so any inconsistencies become your issue not theirs. Professional designers, especially those with architectural backgrounds will make recommendations and suggestions in addition to integrating your preferred style into the project. This can be a make, or break moment for any home remodeling project. Homeowners without design experience often mix and match different styles and aesthetics without even knowing they are doing it. Without guidance, choices can be made that might otherwise have been different with a little justification for further considerations. This pertains to both internal and external remodeling, and covers everything from fixtures, to cabinets, to furniture, to structural elements like trim work, columns, windows and doors, colors, and more

As you can see professional designers and architects bring deep knowledge and a 6th sense to your Alexandria NH home remodeling project that a construction company, its contractors, and its internal admin staff with a design application can’t, classical training and on the job experience in the field. If just one design element is off even slightly, it can change the complete look and feel to your project, maybe even turn your dream into a nightmare.

Robina Construction – Delivering Custom Building Services Throughout NH – Craftsman Grade Contractors for Custom Building of Structures of all Types

From beautiful pool houses, to elegant guest houses, boat houses, custom docks, expansive decks, screened porches and rooms, outdoor chef’s kitchens, gazebos, imaginative play structures, play grounds, and more

In New Hampshire, custom builders and craftsman quality contractors are nearly impossible to find, but exactly what you need when you want to build any structure or undertake any addition building project at your residence, at Robina Construction, that’s exactly what you will get.

Today’s Design Build Process

What does it really mean to be a design build firm these days. If you look around, you will see many contractors touting design build services, but do they really offer what you need? In most cases, that’s a definitive no. The current design build trend came about through a desire to lower building costs to homeowners so that it would be easier to close jobs. Standard contractors, simply added the words design build to their vocabulary, subscribed to a 3D design application and considered themselves a design build company. This isn’t enough to be considered a design build contracting firm, in fact it leads to disasters in final product. You have builders with no true experience or background in design. You simply can’t remove the architectural mindset out of your project and expect it to deliver on your dreams. Design Build to most firms is a vendor side cost cutting advantage, not something that benefits you in the final product.

Robina’s Design Build Process – A Key Differentiator for our Craftsman

At Robina Construction all of our designs are performed by key members of our team that have architectural experience and backgrounds as well as advanced degrees and certifications. That means you can get a true design build experience with architectural underpinnings that ensure your project isn’t just lumber, nails and paint, it’s what you expected, not just what they gave you. Here is where the true benefit comes in. When you have a true design build firm, and not many exist, you get the advantage of having both the design and the build being governed by one, cohesive unit, all on the same page, all concerned with one thing, meeting and exceeding your expectations. No finger pointing, no excuses, just beautiful design and wquality craftsmanship.
